Position Overview
On the job training will be provided for this entry-level position.
Provide machining, metallurgical and mechanical/physical testing support to an independent testing laboratory that performs a wide variety of services in the determination of chemical compositions, material structures and product performance parameters. This position requires a person to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of diverse business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out physical testing and inspection procedures on product samples.
- Provide machining of test samples.
- Provide metallurgical details on assigned product samples.
- Carry out system, equipment maintenance and repair as needed.
- Other duties assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of High School GED, some college preferred.
- One to two years machine shop experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
- Experience with standard laboratory equipment is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-starter, able to work independently on tasks.
Reporting Relationships:
- Reports to Supervisor, Mechanical Testing Section and Manager, Analytical Services Division
Physical Requirements:
Physical Ability
- Stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, bending, crawling, climbing; lift minimum of 40 pounds
Visual Ability
- Visual accommodation necessary for reading instructions/materials necessary to perform functions of job
Hearing Ability
- Must be able to make and receive phone calls.
Work Conditions
- Combination of standard office, machining equipment shop and occasional travel to project sites.
