Bowser-Morner's Services Crucial to Rose Music Center Project

Project Background

The Rose Music Center at The Heights was developed by the City of Huber Heights, Ohio, as a way to spur development along an underutilized stretch of land bordering Interstate 70. The Rose Music Center is a 4,200 seat, fully covered amphitheater featuring headliner music acts from around the country. The music center also contains facilities for food & beverage concessions sales as well as merchandise sales. The total cost of the project was $19.3 million.

Working directly with the developer and owner (City of Huber Heights), Bowser-Morner provided the following services for this project:

  • Geotechnical investigations for the entire center, including parking areas, out lots, and recommendations for building pads
  • Pavement Design
  • Construction observation & materials testing (Soils, Concrete, Rebar, Asphalt)
  • Conducted prepour exams on the structural precast at the fabricator in Springboro, Ohio
  • Special inspections

Construction of the Rose Music Center started in 2013 and was completed in 2015. The facility is part of The Heights, an 800-acre residential and retail development.

Value to Our Client

  • The Rose Music Center’s unique stage design was particularly challenging. Constructed from 12-foot wide, 65-foot tall concrete bridge beams and covered by a 165-foot long steel girder roof system, the stage required ample underground work, including difficult foundation and footing aspects that Bowser-Morner helped solve through the recommendation of new soil stabilization technology from GeopierTM.
  • Bowser-Morner, Inc. provided an experienced technician that was cross-trained and equipped to perform testing and observation services for earthwork, deep foundations, concrete and masonry.  By assigning a technician with this board experience and training, a majority of the required testing was performed by a single technician. This allowed Bowser-Morner, Inc. to provide a more economical and cost effect service
  • Technicians with specialized training in structural steel bolts and welds supplemented our lead technician as needed. This technician was also cross trained and equipped to perform testing on soils and concrete when needed due to overlapping construction phases.
  • The experienced technician was able to assess a problem and provide recommendations to both the owners and contractors representatives to resolve the issue. When needed, the technician contacted Bowser-Morner engineers to confirm or receive additional recommendations. This capability minimized delays and helped keep the construction activity on schedule.
  • Bowser-Morner's ability to provide a wide range of services with an experienced staff gave the client/owner a single source for the needed services.
