We perform a proficiency test by exposing a continuous monitor, or a group of passive devices, for a specific period of time to controlled conditions of radon concentration, temperature, and relative humidity in our radon chamber. This is similar to spiking, except that the client does not know beforehand the radon concentration to which the monitor or devices are exposed. The client reports the results of the radon measurements to us. The results must be within 25% of the chamber value for each monitor or passive device to pass the test. We provide the results of the test to the appropriate regulatory personnel, as well as to the client.
For several years, we have provided proficiency tests for licensed radon testers in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. With the end of the EPA's Radon Proficiency Program, we anticipate that we will be providing proficiency tests for additional states as well as for NEHA and NRSB.
If you'd like more information about how we can help you with your proficiency testing needs, please let us know.
